Glass Cactus is a creative collective, with a focus on screenwriting and surreal filmmaking.
Our first short film - Second Surface - is a 12 minute black & white silent film about a woman who follows her mysterious twin into a strange and surreal world and experiences changes in identity as she travels, the way we often do in dreams. The film was an official selection at the 2020 IndieX Film Fest, where it was nominated for Best Experimental Short and Best Mobile Short, and it screened at Denver’s Emerging Filmmaker’s Project 20th anniversary in June, 2022.
The Pandemic in Pollyville is a web series that chronicles stories from the pandemic in silent film style, featuring vintage Polly Pockets by Bluebird Toys. Episode 9: “The First Date” made semi-finalist at the Indie Shorts Fest in the categories of Best LGBTQ Film & Best Web Series, and was an official selection for the FlickFair Film Festival in January 2022. Episode 1: “The Supermarket” was selected for a screening at Denver’s Bug Theater as part of the Emerging Filmmaker’s Project.
All props, photography, production design, editing, intertitles, art directing, and story are done by Amanda E.K. Original music by Jack Oberkirsch. All episodes are available on YouTube.
